SBLO Giving Tuesday Campaign (2)_edited.jpg

Greetings and an Introduction from

South Bend Lyric Opera Artistic Director and President

Emanuel-Cristian Caraman

President, Board of Directors

In the fall of 2015, I founded South Bend Lyric Opera as a short-term endeavor and an additional offering to the rich tradition of arts in South Bend. Our very first production, Puccini’s La Bohème, was such a tremendous success we were inspired to keep moving forward. This was a shared undertaking from the start with contributions from an incredibly committed team of colleagues, friends, and opera enthusiasts who volunteered their time and talents to lay the foundation for South Bend’s own professional opera company.

This year marks our 9th anniversary, and I am in awe of how far we have come and what we have accomplished. To date, we have produced fifteen operas, including two world premieres! We have collaborated with outstanding organizations like the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Concept/21, Vesper Chorale, South Bend Chamber Singers, and numerous community partners in multiple diverse venues. We also have introduced opera into middle schools and high schools providing valuable opportunities for young local artists to pursue their dreams of becoming professional performers.

Why is Giving Tuesday Important?

None of this would be possible without you. Your investment and participation in our programs have been the driving force behind SBLO’s success. It is your contributions that bolster the cultural and musical life of our Michiana community. As we approach our 10th anniversary season, I am excited for what lies ahead, and I am full of anticipation for the future of our community and our company!

I know it is within our human nature to express ourselves in ways that communicate an understanding of our shared experiences. It is our goal at SBLO to continue to focus on the artistic integrity of both singing and performance, and the use of space in order to extend the beautiful tradition of opera.

To continue building on all we’ve achieved, and to keep pushing boundaries with new operas, timeless classics, and deeper community engagement, we need your help. Please consider investing in the growth of SBLO, so we can continue to inspire audiences for years to come.

Your investment will have a lasting impact!
